St. Louis lawmaker proposes making transportation sales tax in his city permanent

A bi-annual debate over a sales tax in the St. Louis metro area may be history if a bill proposed today/Tuesday in a Senate committee passes. Princess Reyes has this story from Jefferson City.

St. Louis Representative Ron Auer proposed a bill, already approved by the House, to make the transportation sales tax in St. Louis permanent.

Every two years, voters decide whether or not to approve the tax. But if the bill passes, they won't get a choice.

Auer says the tax revenue would let Bi-State make long-term plans for expanding bus and rail systems.
