Can Salvation Army Reach Goal?

The Salvation Army in St. Louis has a goal to reach this holiday season--but will it succeed in time? Kristin Marinec reports from Jefferson City.

So far the Salvation Army's Tree of Lights program is almost two and a half million dollars short of its goal.

Spokesman Matt Gerke says the goal, which is four and a half million dollars, is about 25-percent of the Salvation Army's budget for the entire year.

Last year the program was about 400,000 dollars short.

But Gerke says he's confident donations will increase as Christmas gets closer. The deadline is January 31st.

The Salvation Army's Tree of Lights program is almost two and a half million dollars short of its four and a half million dollar goal this year.

The program, which heads the bellringers, direct mail fundraisers, and other special events, is about twenty-five percent of the Salvation Army's entire annual budget.

Spokesman Matt Gerke says last year the program was 400,000 dollars short--which resulted in an eight percent budget cut.
