Rep. Mary Hagan-Harrell sponsored a bill that would increase retirement benefits for lawmakers while reducing the eligibility requirements. If passed, lawmakers would see a 33 percent increase in monthly benefit and a 33 percent decrease in the amount of time served to be eligible for these benefits.
Hagan-Harrell also said the proposed changes would not apply to retired lawmakers.
