Legislators Urged to Reject Same-Sex Marriages

Lawmakers were urged to reject same-sex marriages at a hearing of the senate civil justice committee. Chris Pelikan has the story from Jefferson City.

Legislation was presented by Republican senator David Klarich of St. Louis County that would not recognize marriages between individuals of the same sex.

Jeff Wunrow, lobbyist for the privacy rights education project, testified against the bill and views it as discriminatory legislation.

Legislators at the state capital hear a propsed ban on legal recognition of homosexual marriages. Chris Pelikan has the report from Jefferson City.

Senator David Klarich of St. Louis County presented a bill to the senate civil justice committee that would specify the legal recipients of marriage benefits. Under a proposed bill, same sex marriages would not be recognized by the state of Missouri. Klarich cites economic implications as the bill's intent.
