Missourians decide whether cell-phone users will pay a monthly tax for an upgrade in 911 service. Karyn Dest reports from Jefferson City.

Cell-phone users would pay an additional fifty cents per month if Proposition A passes.

That money would fund a new 911 system for cell-phone users. On a normal phone, 911 calls are sent to the closest dispatch center. But on a cellular phone, they could end up anywhere.

Prop A campaign coordinator Steve Veile (VY-LEE) says the cellphone tax would fix that problem.

Contents: Veile (VY-LEE) says help can get to motorists faster if the measure passes.

The state highway patrol already operates star-55 to handle emergency calls from the road, but Veile says drivers should be able to dial 911 if they're in trouble.
