The departure of Jefferson County democrat Bill McKenna means that next year's Senate leadership probably won't include anyone from the St. Louis area. Lee McGuire has more from Jefferson City.
Louis and Clark were the first to leave St. Louis and head west back in 1804. Now the leadership of the state senate appears to be doing the same thing.
The new Senate president pro-term will probably be majority leader Ed Quick, from the Kansas City area. The three Senators aiming for the majority leader spot are also from that side of the state.

Bill McKenna is Missouri's first victim of term limits. The senate presdient pro-term presided over his last legislative session this week, and when he banged the gavel, his time was up.
McKenna says he's enjoyed his career in the state legislature. But now, he says, he's looking for a new job.
