The House will soon begin debate on the Governor's Challenge Scholarship Program.

Beth Bentley has the story from Jefferson City.

The House higher education committee overwhelmingly voted Monday to begin debate on the governor's Scholarship program.

The program gives students a tax credit of up to 1500 dollars to help pay for college education.

St.Louis representative May Scheve says the financial help is needed.

Contents: "This is one way that we can guarantee that individuals without a need base can qualify for assistance to attend out state institutions, both public and private."

The program is expected to cost 60 million dollars.
