Missouri officials estimate taxpayers could be getting back more than 318 million dollars from last year's taxes. Beejal Patel has the story from Jefferson City.
Taxpayer's across the state will be refunded money because the state took in more revenue than it is allowed to spend.
State budget director Mark Ward says a strong economy is a major factor in the increase in revenue.
The state estimates the average taxpayer could get back about 76 dollars. Ward says Missourians can expect the refund in fall of 1998 -- but only if the courts allow it.
The last two years of refunds have been blocked while the courts consider a challenge to the constitutionality of the refund.
The case is pending before the state Supreme Court.
