Inauguration Moved Indoors

January 13, 1997
By: Tracy Sadeghian
State Capital Bureau

Today's inauguration in the State Capitol Building was the first time the event was held indoors since 1961. Tracy Sadeghian has the story from Jefferson City.

The winter weather brought the inauguration to inside the rotunda of the State Capital.

Most onlookers seemed glad about the change in venue.

Facilities Management employee..Martin Ward helped set up the scaffolding outside the Capitol..and thinks moving the event indoors was a good idea.

"I think we probably had a better turn around because. It was warmer inside than it would've been outside."

House Speaker Steve Gaw agrees...

"I think everyone enjoyed being in a little warmer weather. It was a little more cramped and crowded, but you know it never hurts for us to get together sometimes."

Big screen t.v's broadcasting the inauguration were set up throughout the second floor of the Capitol for distant onlookers.
