For the first time in 36 years, Missouri's governor was inaugurated indoors rather than outside the state's Capitol. Phill Brooks has the story from Jefferson City:
It was the single-digit temperatures which led governor Carnahan into moving the inauguration indoors.
Among those on the inaugural platform was the last governor to be inaugurated indoors -- warren Hearnes.
He's the one who moved these things outdoors -- back in 1965. Hearnes stands by that decision, but then conceded he was happy to be indoors this time around:
For those of you not old enough to remember, Hearnes was Missouri's first governor to serve two terms -- starting back in 1961.
