Fred Goldman speaks out about victims rights

Fred Goldman is using his notoriety as the famous father of murdered Ron Goldman to join attorney general Jay Nixon in support of victim's rights legislation in Missouri.

Liz Zack has the story from Jefferson City.

As part of victims rights week, Ron Goldman is speaking in support of a house bill that would permit victims of a violent crime to sit in the courtrooms during the trial of the defendant.

Goldman says that there is only reason that victims are currently prevented from doing so.

OutCue: "make no mistake in understanding why victims and victims and families are preferred by defense attorney not to be in the courtroom they dont want any indication of the victims and the devestation that has been caused by their defendant to be in any way considered by the jury."

Current law leaves the decison of weather the victim may be present in the courtroom up to the judge to decide.

The bill is now being considered by the senate.
