Plans to distribute Desegregation saving blocked by opposition

Rural opposition threw another punch on the Senate floor in the ongoing debate as to how desegregation savings will be distributed.

Renee Basick has the story from Jefferson City.

With only a month remaining in this legislative session, the clock is ticking for proposed plans to hand-out money once used to fund desegregation efforts in Missouri schools.

Debate has yet again delayed a vote on legislation proposed by Butler Democrat, Harold Caskey.

Opposition to the bill continues to be from Senators, like Morris Westfall who believe their rural districts will be short-changed if it becomes law.

Caskey disagrees.

He says there will be plenty of funds to be routed into rural districts.
