Medical insurance may be required to pay for breast reconstruction

Medical insurance companies would be required to pay for breast reconstruction under a measure given preliminary approval by the Missouri House Tuesday.

The proposed measure extends the care women receive from insurance companies following a mastectomy.

The bill sponsor is St. Louis County Representative Sue Shear. She says that the agony many women face after breast removal slows the healing process.

The bill faces one more vote in the House before moving to the Senate.
