The Legislature has passed a bill that warns residents when a sexual offender moves into their community and keep current and repeat sexual offenders in jail longer.
Beryl Chong reports from Jefferson City.
The Legislature voted unanimously to pass a bill that warns people when a sexual predator moves into their neighborhood, keeps repeat and multiple sexual offenders in jail longer and requires those in jail to go through rehabilitation programs .
Senator Betty Sims, sponsor of the bill, says it all started 3 years ago.
Under this bill, both pedophiles and rapists would be required to attend The Missouri's Sexual Offenders Program.
According to Senator Sims, sexual offenders who attend this program have a recidivism rate of less than 3 %.
The bill now goes to Governor Carnahan's office.
