Democrats Cheer Dole

Missouri Democrats are more optimistic about President Clinton's chances for reelection. Kimberly Lohman in Jefferson City tells why.

Now that Bob Dole has grabbed a sizable lead over contenders for the Republican party's presidential nomination, Democrats say it's a big boost for Clinton.

Some Democratic legislators think Dole is less of a match than Buchanan, and will be easy to beat.

St.Louis Representative Russell Gunn says Dole's nomination would directly impact Clinton's chances.

Other Democrats cited Dole's age and a divided Republican party as primary liabilities.
