House Approves Mandated AIDS Testing

Victims of AIDS would be subject to court ordered testing under a measure approved by the House. Adam Levine has the story from Jefferson City.

The House amended and significantly altered the intent of what was a straight forward bill. The original Senate bill simply expanded the definition of HIV tests to include non-blood samples. But, the House stuck on an amendment allowing anyone to petition the court to require an AIDS test if they can demonstrate a potential exposure to the disease through medically known forms of tranmission. Craig Hosmer of Springfield is the sponsor of the amendment.

Another amendment raised the felony level for recidivst prostitutes who have tested positive for HIV.

House sponsor Paula Carter of St. Louis says she intends to get the amendments stripped off the bill when it is taken up next in conference committee. From the State Capitol, I'm Adam Levine.
