The Senate reached a compromise over an amendment to the speed limit bill. The amendment increases the speed limit in urban areas to 60 miles per hour.

The bill's sponsor, Senator Danny Staples, wanted the speed limit to be 55 miles per hour but Republican leader Franc Flotron wanted a 65 mile per hour limit.

Staples was opposed to any increase in the speed limit, but said he was will to compromise.

Contents: "Well, I'd rather the law stay the same at 55 miles per hour but it was a compromise amendment."

Although the amendment was passed by a 2 to 1 margin, there is opposition to the speed limit bill.

Further debate is expected soon in the Senate.

Reporting from the Capitol, I'm Brian Higgins.
